The full-time faculty in the Honours Bachelor of Experiential Design have co-designed the curriculum and have expertise in specialized areas within the field. All faculty and staff are committed to student success and to working collaboratively to foster an inclusive and supportive program culture. 

Renée Alleyn, MA (she/they)

Renée Alleyn is a professor at Sheridan College in the Experiential Design program. Her teaching is grounded in design practice and critical theory with a guiding interest in the role design plays in our experience of self and society. She holds undergraduate degrees in graphic design (OCAD) and gender studies (University of Victoria). Her Master’s degree in Communication and Culture (York University) saw her investigate the social and political positioning of magazines in Canada. She teaches undergraduate courses in a range of subjects including typography and type making, communication design, research, history, and design theory.

Angela Iarocci, M.Arch.  (she/her)

Angela has a diverse design background focused on communications within the built environment. She has professional experience in both the public and private sector, specializing in information design, experiential design, and architecture. Angela has been involved in large-scale projects developing wayfinding systems, exhibitions, and interpretive installations. As an educator, she has focused on information design and several other areas including inclusive and sustainable design practices. Angela is a member of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) Academic Task Force and is the recipient of the SEGD 2021 Educator Award. Her professional and academic work has been exhibited and published internationally.

Claire Ironside, MES, M.Arch. (she/her)

Claire Ironside is a designer and educator whose academic focus — conceptual process, sustainable and speculative design, 3Design and information visualization — draw on her history and practice in environmental, spatial, and communication design. Specializations: the development of aleatoric and systems based conceptual frameworks; visualizing data/information as a form of storytelling, and developing socially and environmentally responsive curriculum. Her multi-disciplinary practice focuses on the design of objects, installations, and experiences at the intersection of design, art, and craft across a range of scales and constituencies.

She has worked professionally as an urban designer, public art administrator, civic improvements designer, and landscape architect in the public and private sector. She holds degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, urban geography, and environmental studies. Her work has garnered several awards and has been exhibited and published internationally.

James March, MDes., MSc. (he/they)

James March is an interdisciplinary designer and educator who creates printed matter, identities, custom lettering, front-end interfaces and interactive projects. He finds satisfaction in an unspecialized practice, taking on a wide range of projects for clients of all sizes. Over the past eight years March has taught interactivity design, typography, statistics and health psychology and has been a speaker at conferences in Canada, the USA and the United Kingdom. March’s graphic design has appeared in several books and magazines both nationally and globally including Applied Arts, FRAME and Communication Arts. His publications also extend to the scientific community, with recent journal articles on contrast and congruence effects in affective priming of words and melodies being published in the journal Psychology of Language and Communication. March’s current research focuses on metaphysical accounts of memory systems and multidimensional visualizations of storage mediums.
